ABOUT BEACH CAT RECORDS
My musical education began at an early age, I was five years old. My older brothers and sisters had a collection of 78 vinyl records. I was so fascinated by the sound that I played them over and over.
Music by Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Johnny Otis, The Moonglows, Little Richard, The Turbans, and later Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Ritchie Valens. Thank you to my Mother (Maria) who listened to musica en espanol that added that needed special spice. My best friend was a guitar player and taught me some surf/rock tunes by The Ventures, Beach Boys and Chuck Berry.
I soon moved to Compton to live with my Sister and Brother-in-law. The neighbors next door had an R&B-Latin-Jazz band, and when they practiced in their garage, I'd sit in my bedroom with my guitar (volume down) and after a few practices I knew all of their songs. Song by, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Johnny Guitar Watson, Horse Silver, The Four Sounds, Lee Morgan, Thee Midnighters, Willie Bobo & Mongo Santamaria.
Finally one of the guitar players left the band and I was Johnny on the spot, I was the happiest fourteen year old on earth! After serving time in the military, I attended Cal State University Long Beach. I also spent time studying percussion with the Great Poncho Sanchez. After college I played with several bands in the Southern California area. Now with two CD's "Juicy Sweet" and "Notes For The Soul", on the download, I been working on a EP (Forever Yours) that will be completed in September. Recently I launched Beach Cat Records. So the journey continues. Please enjoy and be your soul refreshed. Special thanks to the outstanding artists that came to work with me in the studio. Juicy Sweet CD: Rene Camacho (bass) Michael Lington (sax) Little Willie G (vocals) Tiki Pasillas (drums/percussion) Joe Rotondi (keyboards) Aaron Gayden (vocals) Claudia Brant (vocals) Mike Jimenez (vocals) Notes for the Soul CD: Stephan Gobu (bass) Kenny Goobarian (guitar) Greg Paxton (drums) Raffia Ford (vocals) Rich Wenzel (keyboards, B3 organ) Arlan Boll (engineer) Rich Wenzel (asst engineer).
